But thanks for the holiday pay!
It’s too damn bad because I love watching fireworks! I might watch from a distance, hang out with family and enjoy barbeque.
But the days of driving to Stillwater, Minnesota hours in advance to secure the perfect spot, spread out a blanket to watch the night air pop into wondrous displays of bright colors over the St. Croix River and Historic Lift Bridge — are over.
This day used to be a celebration I looked forward to without question. The best summer holiday with enough summer left. The magical booms and sizzles in the sky, an excitement you don’t forget.
Back then, I believed in the general idea of freedom being a United States citizen. My beliefs about America have changed.
The Fourth of July is now a defunct holiday for this woman.

- I’m not proud to be an American when much of what America represents is false.
- What are we celebrating? Freedom for who? Women aren’t free, minorities aren’t free. Many people aren’t free in aspects that impact their quality of life. Being rich and white is freedom — yes.
